Hi;

I would very much enjoy it would there be more options for the lengths of Freestyle Design Contests.
Currently the longest is 80 segments, followed by Variable length with a max. of 100, and the next step up is 500 segments, which is a bit ridiculous and far too tasking on the average computer to do anything more than mutate and wiggle the thing, let alone build a protein from scratch.

So, I would like to suggest a 160-, 240- and 320 segment Freestyle Design Contest. (Or any other lengths reasonably spanning the 100~500 segment gap with 2 or more different contests.)
Or perhaps Variable Length contests with a higher max. seg. count, which is then known in advance.
So that you could create a Variable Length contest with a max. of 200, 300 and/or something or other.

Hope this'll happen, who knows!
Thanks for reading.

As I recall, you have to pick the closest puzzle's size (and there are few) and then you have to manually add or delete residues to get the right length, and the maximum you can add or delete is 10 or 20. The contest setup clearly needs a dynamically generated PDB (preferably from a given source sequence, even if it's just 160 alanines) rather than these few templates.

I admit I've never made a contest myself (last thing we need is another contest called 'test').

MuloW, 180 is about the upper limit for Foldit. Participation really starts to drop off at 160-180 and 200 is pretty close to unplayable for most people.

The way I can create now is choose a design length, -40 60, 80, variable or 500- and in variable u can add or delete seg's manually anywhere from 20 or 30 up to 100.

Either way, I very much understand your point and yet I dare to ask;
any chance there will be an option to create a 160 segment design contest anytime in the near future? Or perhaps (just thought of this) the current freestyle designs in dimer and/or trimer symmetries? Would be fun as well.

By the way, I was mistaken, the lengths are 20-40-80- variable max 100 - and 500, which is listed twice, for some reason.

Cool, so, is this in the making? Symmetry contests / more length choice ? Or are the pages just being polished, 'cause I've noticed update/improvement to contest main page! :)

Bump because I don't want the refurbished main contest page to be the only change/update.

Thanks beta!
also: it would be extremely useful if we could have a or some easy Blind Electron Density contests, as it is pretty new and we could all use more practice!

Completely agree...

Few are proficient yet with the EDs, it would make very good sense to have them as contests for more practice.
