When the server is down and a player wants to continue, now any solution will not be valid as solo.
If the player has his password as a remembered password (I know, not safe) then that should be enough as an identification so he can play as himself and any solo solution be recognized as a valid one.

Verifying against the saved password is not enough, but we will look into a secure way of allowing solo scores to be kept in offline play.

I don't understand well why it is more secure to be jumped to evolver in this case. But a solution for this suggestion would certainly help me to play more soloists (many occasions of server break for me, for example when going out with a laptop).
Had this idea, but never shared. +1, I would love this.
I recall that I was told that in the past players were working offline and suddenly appearing in the solo list a few minutes before the puzzle close, the functionality can easily be gamed. There are probably even more clever tricks as well. Not suggesting that that is the intent of the posters of course.
spmm: today, it's also possible to suddenly appear with high score. Working online, break (intentional or not) in internet connection, reconnect.
Foldit team: If I understand well, I suppose that the problem of off-line play concerns possible illegal exchange of solutions by e-mail (which needs to close and reopen the game I think. Thus this would be cheating for soloïsts, no real problem for evolvers). Am I right?
i had a post like this one, same concept, different method. I like that one though.
