IRC connection problem

According to my group's admin, my IRC nick and key can't access the group's chatroom in the FoldIt's built-in IRC function. It somehow bounces me out and the admin always has to manually add me temporally in the IRC list whenever I wish to chat.

WidgetOtaku, your current irc-key is not valid key for
you to login to irc-server ( identify ) .

i think you were able to login to irc-server around
end of Sep., last year, do you still remember your
new password or not if you changed your password ( irc-key ) ?

i don't think we can recover your password from our end
( need to confirm this ), another way to do is to create
a new account for chat only.

Is there anyway that you can create a new and valid irc key for WidgetOtaku so that the foldit client chat will work? I don't see any way as a user to get a new irc key.

fyi, I've changed my "WidgetOtaku" FoldIt username to "CaeliFlexilis" (even if it doesn't change the IRC username). Would this help? :/

I just noticed that you have changed your name. I think we are still seeing WidgetOtaku being kicked from GoScience. Did your IRC key change?

Surely there must be some way for someone to alter Nickserv's registration, or to delete it so that it can be re-registered manually/interactively via nickserv commands.

I think I know what would be the problem: last year, I used to have an account with the name "WidgetOtaku", but deleted it after being bored and frustrated with the tutorial puzzles (yup, it's true ^^;;). Eventually, as I got interested of using FoldIt again later this year, I created a new account using this same username.

Yes. Clearly when you recreated your account and nickserv was told to register you, it returned 'WidgetOtaku is already registered', which promptly disappeared into the aether.

Solution: Nicks should be deregistered when accounts are deleted (also removed from access lists). Also, I don't know how the web server communicates with chanserv and nickserv (via irc or via disk?) but don't assume the irc server is up at the time a nick is created/deleted.
