I would like to be able to turn on sound-effects and just hear about events that require me to do something. For example

1) A script completes. That means I have to walk over to my computer and start another one.

2) Rank-up/down. Moderately interesting, I'll usually check it out except in the first hours of a new puzzle when it happens every few minutes.

I do not want an audio cue when I am looking at a fold and watching the screen and already get a visual cue about what I have done.

At the moment the sound isn't communicating anything, so I have it turned off.

Some other events that would be good to have sound cues for:

(1) When a manual wiggle ends and the #'s in () start rising fast. Earlier today I was waiting almost 20 minutes for wiggle all at high wiggle power to reach this point.

(2) When a new message comes through one of your open chat windows. Perhaps have a different sound for each chat window.

(3) When one of your chat windows with an X or - on it opens up, again with a different sound for each chat window.

It would be nice to have a menu with checkboxes so you can pick and choose which of these sounds you want on/off.

Thanks!

Some more events for notifications or sound cues:

(4) When a fellow group member posts a new share on the puzzle you are working on. This would help when you're using a non-Chat Foldit client.

(5) When you receive a new private message (Foldit e-mail) on the Foldit site.

(6) When someone responds to one of your Feedbacks on the Foldit site.

(7) When someone lists your username in Chat.

If you make a menu to control all the different sounds, instead of checkboxes for each sound, you could have listboxes where one option is "off" and the other options are different types of sounds (ping, telephone ring, music, explosion, user-input sound, etc.)

(8) When you evolve a structure you are working on and the red line through your score suddenly disappears.

The feedback https://fold.it/portal/node/994829#comment-22337 describes a partial solution, but a Sound menu kind of like the View menu would be better.

There's one simple rule I think needs to be implemented to make me (and I think, most others) want to turn sound effects back on.

Manually folding -> Play sound
Script running -> Be silent

With the already mentioned exception of rank up/down and script start/finish

I would like the sound of voids popping to not be queued if the client is minimised, and therefore not crash the client - first things first thanks ie bugs.
