I just had an idea, wouldn't it be great to be able to play foldit on your smartphone? Also, I think foldit has a huge potential as a free puzzle game on a smartphone :)

Sadly, that question gets asked a lot...

but we currently do not have the resources to create that yet. Hopefully in the future!

Client need be

highly optimized for smartphones, on windows it eats over 500MB of ram... only very fresh phones have that many.

Running foldit probably uses up more energy than watching an HD movie...remember Apple banned Flash from the iPhone because even that was too much. It sounds like a cool idea but there really is a lot of number crunching going on.

Could it possibly run on the ipod touch? On my laptop the Foldit client only runs 70-85mb ram on average.

that is not the issue

The main issue is that we simply do not have the resources for this.
Just look at all the unanswered feedbacks and you'll see that we can barely keep up with all the requests for the 3 current platforms, there is no way we could handle smartphones right now :-(
