Guide still pulsates when idle - eats bandwidth on headless systems

I use my systems remotely over a network ('headless' systems). The use of a guide introduces a lot of bandwidth overhead because the guide pulsates all the time. This causes screen updates to be sent over the network continuously. It would help a lot to be able to switch the pulsating of the guide off.
