I am proposing that the "Selection Interface" & "Original Interface" be merged in Foldit, to make the program even easier to use than before. I thought it would be good to discuss at length, since it would be a fairly considerable change.

I have recently posted this suggestion as a feedback item. Please see the feedback item for more information:

This discussion could expand to include talks on icons and/or themes within Foldit, since the icons used in the two interfaces are different from each other.

there is no longer support for the "Selection Interface"

Dear tristanlbailey,

You are of course completely welcome to suggest this, but I wanted to let you know (before you spend a lot of time on this, or get your hopes up) that those who designed and created the "Selection Interface" are unfortunately no longer working on the Foldit project.

What this means is that we currently do not have any resources to improve the "Selection Interface" or have anyone that would be able to merge it with the "Original Interface".

Again, I do not want to keep you from suggesting what might be a clear improvement to the game, but I wanted to tell you this ahead of time so are are not disappointed later on.

As you can see by the many unanswered feedbacks there are a lot of great suggestions on how to improve Foldit, we simply do not have the resources to implement them all. But we do read all of them and put them in our long list of things to do.

I want to give you an example of one of a great suggestion that we just haven't had time to implement (because it is not trivial to do) even though it would make Foldit a much better game:

You can see that it was suggested 2 years ago this week, but is still unimplemented! :(

Thanks for replying,

Thanks for replying, beta_helix. Wouldn't the existing Foldit developers have access to the source code for the Selection Interface, or is it a separate component altogether? Or, were you referring to the time and "people power" that it would involve?

It's also hard to get my hopes up on anything, if hardly anyone comments on my suggestions. This is just one of those things that I have had to learn the hard way. Having said this, I do appreciate the comments that I have received thus far, your's included.

Maybe another suggestion would be to advertise a Foldit developer's drive, and get more people working on the development of Foldit? This could help with the "resources" issue.

Don't feel too bad about not getting many comments about suggestions. Most Foldit players simply work on the puzzles and come to the feedback to report major problems and bugs.

Also, unfortunately all the veteran Foldit players that have been here for a while know that we have limited resources so they don't want to waste their time on suggestions they know we won't be able to implement (especially when many of them are busy teaching new players the ropes to Foldit!)

To answer your last suggestion, one of the Foldit players who doesn't live too far from Seattle (tlaloc) has been working on improving Lua in the game: http://fold.it/portal/node/989751

That's cool! There should be

That's cool! There should be more programmers putting their hand up for helping out with Foldit development.
Unfortunately, I only know Visual Basic, which wouldn't really be enough. What languages is Foldit built in?
