The Forum currently has one section for all.

I think it would be of great benefit to expand the Forum to have many more sections.

The sections would be created and titled by the site. The users can start new topics and threads to these sections.

Possible sections...
-General
-Puzzle Related
-Strategy Talk
-Feedback
-Bug Report
-New Player
-Off Topic
-Science Center(for science talk related to folding and chem)
-Evolver Talk
-Soloist Talk
-Group Talk/Area

...Also, for Groups that exist or will exist:
-Having a forum section for them to make there home would be of great benefit for community growth and collaboration.

These are just suggestions and more ideas can be proposed. Anything more then what currently exists sounds really exciting.

Thanks a Bunch!

There is the Foldit wiki on which strategies, puzzles, science stuff, soloist stuff, videos etc are.

Groups have their own forums etc already. They also have their own chat rooms.

Evolving can only be done by groups and they have the facility to talk about that on their own individual forums already.

The feedback section is for bugs and suggestions.

Its pretty much all ready in existence :)

Thanks for your post!
Your missing the point a bit. These are merely suggestions, what they choose to implement is up to them. Having a more robust forum section will only improve user communication. This is an improvement, not a replacement nor would it hurt anything or anyone.

"Groups have their own forums etc already. They also have their own chat rooms."
Ok, but what about a generic group section where groups can post bios and do recruiting. It will also help a Foldit player find a group that fits them.

"Evolving can only be done by groups and they have the facility to talk about that on their own individual forums already."
Think more generic, like general evolver discussion. But again this is merely a suggestion that could be used or not used.

and Wiki's are great but they do not allow the level of community interaction a forum would.

New age gamers are used to a greater forum section. Community discussion would be greatly improved by creating more sections/features.

Thanks for your time! :)

No, you missed my point...all of what you suggest... already exists.

We have chat for everything else. :)

"New age gamers"...err what do you think most of us are?....

(This is mostly a reply to vixx's posts about why I think sub-forums would be good. :P)

Still being a fairly new player, I had no clue that groups had their own forums. But wouldn't it be nice to bring the whole community together more by giving them an improved common forum as well? Being able to share ideas within a group is good, but being able to share ideas between groups (and people without groups!) would be even better. :)

Although it may not be 'necessary', adding sub-forums to the current public forum would greatly improve readability. Maybe I'm just too used to visiting other forums- but I always like to browse forums by topic. For example, if I wanted to talk to other new players it would be nice to go to a sub-forum and find relevant posts easily there, rather than having to sort through posts about complicated stuff I haven't got my head around yet, or X, Y and Z etc... it is a little off-putting, so I quickly browsed away from the current forum without really looking at anything. I suppose what I'm trying to get at is- organisation makes things easier to navigate, which may make people more likely to utilise them.

I agree that chat is a great alternative to the forums, but I noticed that it can sometimes move very fast and it's difficult to follow if people are holding multiple conversations at once. But, for example, it would be very difficult to hold a long, thoughtful in-depth discussion in chat because of this, and also massive paragraphs would explode the text box. Kinda like this post, really. ;) Not to mention that a forum doesn't require the conversationalists to be online at the same time- might promote more communication between people in different timezones, too! In my opinion, chat and forums are two very different modes of communcation, so it would be awesome if the forums were given more love, too. ;)

I suppose another thing to consider is that the Foldit forum is the only forum the general public will know exists if they visit Foldit. It would be kinda cool for people to be able to get a feel for the community just by browsing through the forums and seeing how things work, before deciding whether or not to download the game.

Anyway, as you can probably tell I'm a forum junkie and love forums (much more than chat!), hence this post. ;) I know this suggestion is really just a quality of life improvement more than anything else, and that this game is still in beta, but it would be great to see some sub-forums eventually. :)

Another good idea. Probably don't include a Feedback/Suggestions/Bugs section, since there is already a section on the Foldit website for this (see Feedback link at top of Home page). In this way, we avoid duplicating administrative workload.

Yes, that is a good point. We wouldn't want to split the locations and create more work for them. I agree that their current Feedback/Suggestions/Bugs section is sufficient enough. I think its a lot better then most I've seen frankly. :)
