There are a few things that I'm going to fix relating to the recipes pages.

1) Seth and I decided that the "recipes" page is too confusing because at has several redundant listings of the same data. To resolve, I will make it just one listing, sortable by all the columns.

2) When anonymous user accesses an individual recipe page such as "recipes/123," a blank page is returned from the server. That's bad.

3) Put a link to recipes page on the top menu

I don't see item 3. "Link to recipes page on the top menu"

It hasn't been deployed to the production site yet. See here: foldit-dev.cs.washington.edu

Sounds good.
What is next?

Next, we have to figure out ways to encourage players to use the recipes. Any suggestions?

Do you have any stats on recipe usage? My gut feeling is that they are heavily used by most of the top of the leaderboards.

Wait a moment ! Not acceptable.

You've added "RECIPES" to the top level menu, but in the process have eliminated the "PLAYERS" link to the Groups, Top Evolvers, and Top Soloists.
