I would love to buy a foldit t-shirt, but I see no signs of any on your site. Any chance I'll get the opportunity?

I would like to hear the devs opinions on this.

At current through sites like Cafe Press or other similar sites, it would be simple to set up some graphics and have them printed to shirts for sale. Anyone can do this really, and I've used the site to design shirts before that I've made just for the sake of having one for personal use.

Would there be allowance for a design for sale, which would include the name/logo/url?

Perhaps a foldit logo, a protein structure, and such?

would you want to open a store yourselves so you can control the content ?

would you accept designs to use on the shop, or design them yourselves ?

Basically the price on such sites is pre-set, so there is a minimum (that is usually fairly steep) and you can choose to add an amount beyond that. Would you guys want to do it for beer/coffee money ? Would it be ok for another person to use the name / graphics ? What if the person sold it without profit to themselves, but at the preset cost ?

Heh, once we find a decent graphic designer we can look into this. ;) Any Foldit players out there do graphic design for a living?

I would suggest a "submit your designs contest" where everyone has say 30 days to submit something, then present all of them on the site anonymously and let everyone vote on them for a week or two...

Just state what you are looking for and let the creativity of the community shine through

We've started talking about your contest idea. Do you think it would be important to choose the winner exactly based on number of votes, or should the Foldit team have veto power over the winning choice?

I think clear rules should be laid out, if you choose for example Cafe Press, download the image guidelines for submitting artwork, and in the rules for the contest stipulate the format, size, etc. conforming to the submission guidelines.

I think the rules should also have basics of what you do and do not want, for example, the url, the little foldit ribbon, puzzle structures, etc.

Some veto power should be involved, for example, if a user submits something inappropriate, than it should not be allowed. Since there is no cost to the project for setting up the shop, I do not believe that designs should be rejected based solely on personal tastes however. If there is a design you particularly like, than release it in addition to the voted winners. But I do not think designs should be limited to a single winner or discarded for aesthetic reasons alone. If enough people like a design, and it conforms to the rules, it should be allowed.

I would suggest using the code for admins sweet new topic voting for the contest. Only those logged in can vote, and only once per item. And I think users should be able to vote an item up or down, once for every entry.

This is just an update to let you know that I'm still waiting for a high-resolution copy of our logo just to have something to get started with... If it doesn't arrive in a few days, I'll just start without it.

Do you mean the ribbon ?

Basically the ribbon, the foldit logo and the Solve Puzzles for Science bit (for font). People can then incorporate that into their own designs. I have the ribbon and the word foldit, but only an old piece of text.

Don't have time to do the ribbon right now, but took a couple minutes for this if it is acceptable

odd it showed up in the preview, but not in the post, might be too big, I will email it to you.

OK, well it's not work either way, I've tried twice, and both times I've emailed, the message has been returned undeliverable. Perhaps it has exceeded the size limits for your inbound mail ?

Anyways, here are the files

I could not tell from looking at the image on the site if there was a gradient or anything, or if the there was a drop shadow on the text. I  can add a bit more if needed.. .but if it's just the text you need, I had the font, or atleast a very similar one.

Thanks awfully, but we've hunted up the originals. I posted a design competition just now.

your base to work from high-resolution version of the Foldit logo is 680 x 389 pixels and you asked for Submissions "with their greatest dimension at least 2000px."

No, the base is, I think, 4k by 3k pixels. Click "Original" on the image page to download the high-resolution version.

I think it'd be really fun and cool to be able to spot other folders in say, the grocery store. - Instant common interest - conversation sure to follow. Perhaps a Tee-shirt design with the upcoming "Nature" cover graphic? -d9

We are finally able to resolve one of the most highly-voted feedbacks! None of us here at UW had time to work on this (since it would delay addressing the many feedbacks even more!), but thankfully auntdeen volunteered her talents and time into setting this up for us!

For now, it's a limited first edition with just the official logo.

This Foldit store is a BIG THANK YOU to the amazing community of Foldit players that we have, so all items will be sold at cost, with no profit.

Here's a list of the international websites:
USA www.zazzle.com/foldit
Canada - www.zazzle.ca/foldit
Brazil - www.zazzle.br/foldit
Australia - www.zazzle.com.au/foldit
New Zealand - www.zazzle.co.nz/foldit
Japan - www.zazzle.co.jp/foldit
Korea - www.zazzle.co.kr/foldit
UK - www.zazzle.co.uk/foldit
Switzerland - www.zazzle.ch/foldit
Germany - www.zazzle.de/foldit
Spain - www.zazzle.es/foldit
Sweden - www.zazzle.se/foldit
France - www.zazzle.fr/foldit
Belgium - www.zazzle.be/foldit
Austria - www.zazzle.at/foldit
Portugal - www.zazzle.pt/foldit
Netherlands - www.zazzle.nl/foldit

Many of these items can be easily personalized, so you can put your nicks on most items! :-)

A HUGE thank you to auntdeen for getting this up and running, she did all of this herself... so if you have any questions/suggestions/requests, they better start with "Thank you auntdeen!" or I will delete them ;-)
