I've been getting mixed feedback from other players on this, so I wanted to check.  Now, that the great pruning of old points has occurred, will the "Top Soloists" score be a running (albeit longer) total like the "Top Soloists This Week"  and "This Month", or will it, going forward, be an indefinite accumulation?

Put another way, are our old Soloist scores going to drop off after some period of time (greater than a month) and if so, what is that period?

Thanks.

They're going to drop off

They're going to drop off after 4 months.

But currently only puzzles from 107 onwards count so there'll be no dropping off for a while.

Yes, four months

I just got confirmation from admin that the Top Soloists score will take into account only the previous four months.

Hmmm. I thought that was the reason we had the other two rolling tallies - to give the newcomers a chance for glory.  Once they stick it out beyond a month, then they are by definition not newcomers and ostensibly don't need/deserve the handicap, no? I'm not sure I understand the logic of discouraging committed long termers, which is what not having an absolute tally is doing.  Is this about maximizing participation numbers?

Maybe we should rename "Top Soloists" to the more honest "Top Soloists this Quarter", and then we might add "Top Soloists this Year"  and then... but wait, I'm being silly right? Nobody is bored enough to do this for a year, eh? wrong.

Please, make as many rolling tally divisions you like, but please keep some form of long-term recognition (perhaps "Top Totally Addicted and/or OCD Soloists"  :-)

Keep of the good work, you code monkeys. This is the greatest things since sliced banana bread!

I agree

I also think there should be some sort of permanent ranking.

Look at the MochiAds Leaderboards, for example. They have Daily, Weekly, Monthly, and All high scores. That's actually All, not The Last Four Months.

If nothing else, we could have the permanent scores act as experience points and instead of ranking people, would contribute toward leveling up, like on Kongregate. That way anyone could become a level 60 folder, whether or not a bunch of old-timers got there first. :p

Between you, you've provided

Between you, you've provided the answers. :) Yes, the reason we will move to a quarterly soloists rank instead of all-time is because we're going to have levelling instead (and this will take into account the scores accrued in versions which would have been cut off even in a global soloist score: because the scores are not comparable, but levels are.

If we don't end up with some form of a levelling system, we'll put back global soloist scores.
