I sent a few suggestions in, having time to think about them, I would like to elaborate.

Do not make it hard for people to do things that they already know how to do, there are standards for this stuff that most people know.

All colours should be user definable, it should be like this, open colour settings -> show a picture of all the possible elements (lock colour, clash colour, hydrophobic colour etc...) click on the element you would like to change the colour of and bring up the palette, including the gradient (so a start and end colour) that you now have for an amino acid placement.

Make all of the key user definable, it may not make sense to you but A/D (translate / strafe) and W/S (zoom, go forward/backward) while using the mouse to rotate (while left clicking the background) will make a lot of sense to gamers. I also would say that A/Z (zoom, go forward/backward) will also make sense to gamers, it depends on the type of games they like (that's why it should be definable).

The mouse wheel needs to zoom as default.

Though of course the mouse need to be configurable too, such as the mouse wheel will select different tools (just like most FPS the mouse wheel changes the weapon) a quick pop up (that should be able to be toggled on/off) should tell the player what tool they have just selected and also remind them of what the short cut key is (not the default, but what the currently selected short cut key is). That may not make sense so let me explain, if I choose to use the W/S keys to zoom then I can use the mouse wheel to change tools.

Your suggestion and chat need to have all of the usual features, as I said in the suggestion, it's annoying not to be able to cut, copy, paste etc...

Hints should be able to be toggled on/off.

None of this is hard to do, it's just polish.

Hugo.

Have a happy new year and my best wishes to all.

I'm not going to add in the returns that were there before I pasted, I have to go and tie a load on a ute so catch ya all later Hugo be safe.

Hugo:

Thanks for the great comments. So would you say that your main frustrations with the game are nonintuitive camera tools (e.g. no strafe), and inability to customize keyboard bindings? (Remember: we're still in the phase of making big changes to the game, so big suggestions are also welcome.)

My main frustrations were on the "send suggestion" that I sent though I have added more information here; they are in this order.

 • The colours of the hydro phobic/philic view, I can't see what the colour of the close AA are, unless I turn up my monitor to 100% brightness 100% contrast and then use the CATALYST controls to up the green and blue. This might just be my hardware as I could see the close AA in the video. It is very annoying though.

 • Not being able to toggle the void spheres on/off in all views. I would like them while I am in the hydro- mode.

 • Mouse wheel not zooming in out.

As to your question, and inability to customize keyboard bindings would be the main one. Please note if you allow user defined keyboard bindings, you should have a default set of bindings, for instructional video purposes “the defaults key is” and so that the participant can always reset.

Quick question are the "send suggestion" getting through, because I sent one about the wiggle tool playing up in WinXP if you didn't stop it before wiggling another AA?

Okay that does it I will not try to add returns anymore, nothing seems to work etc... in the preview anyway :?

Top Scoring Folds

Allow them to be downloaded by other players. Then have a second round. Allows others to learn from how others folded and possibly improvements from there. It would kind of be like upgrading the versions of the human folder. Just like improved versions of the DC software.

If you're really ambitious record the fold process locally as a video for replay.

sidechains

One of the most frustrating parts of the game for me is the inability to rotate single bonds (which is really down to the unresponsiveness of the beta sheet and alpha helix moving tool) and the fact that there is no obvious way to turn sidechain view on and off by default. This would make it MUCH easier to align different components since you wouldnt simply be going in blind.

Yeah, 3D programs like Maya

Yeah, 3D programs like Maya and Blender already have setups to interact in a 3d environment. Keeping as close to those as possible would be good.

Coloration

Could you add in an option to color the backbone segments with the score while keeping the residue type colors on the sidechains? Right now, the score coloration scheme is redundant, and the hydrophobic scheme doesn't make use of sidechain color, which it should. Plus, the glows are hard to work with.
