Developer Preview Release Soon

Hey everyone,

We've got a pile of fixes and features to follow the recent interface release. Lots of stuff for bindable hotkeys, some help and tooltip clarity changes, and some crash fixes. We're working on addressing more of your feedback, so we'll be following this up more updates in the near future.

Release Notes:
- Allow action menu keyboard shortcuts to be rebound in the "Configure Keyboard Shortcuts" General Options submenu.
- Make sure that user-set keyboard shortcuts take priority over default shortcuts for other actions.
- To avoid conflicts with the actions menu, the default "Restore Very Best" and "Restore Credit Best" keyboard shortcuts were changed to Ctrl+B and Ctrl+C, respectively. These can be rebound in the "Configure Keyboard Shortcuts" General Options submenu.
- Made the "Configure Keyboard Shortcuts" dialog resizable.
- Clean up some residual keyboard shortcuts from the old interfaces & cross talk from other shortcuts. (e.g. Alt+T no longer invokes wiggle.)
- Add keyboard shortcuts for the side buttons (Help/Undo/View/Behavior/Cookbook). So as not to conflict with actions, these are F1/Alt+U/Alt+V/Alt-B/Alt+C by default. These can be rebound in the "Configure Keyboard Shortcuts" general options submenu
- Allow keyboard shortcuts to be bound to View Presets, including user defined presets (as with Recipes, these start off unbound.)
- Fix bug where the Color/View Protein/View Sidechains list in More View Options did not update when keyboard shortcuts were used.
- Add the screenshot and AlphaFold panel buttons to the list of rebindable keyboard shortcuts
- Other assorted hotkey-related bug and usability fixes.
- Update Help Menu.
- The puzzle timer tooltip has been updated to refresh more often to give an better display of the puzzle expiration.
- Puzzle timer in the scoreboard now displays minutes.
- Time abbreviations have been added.
- Address issue causing crash-on-exit bugs.
- Made small molecule design more robust to certain causes of crashes.
- Address crashes in scoring for ligand design puzzles.
- Fix bug in HBond Objective
- Fixed bug where the title wasn't resizing properly (leaving it and the objective panel as only three dots).
- The Secondary Structure action has been re-enabled for level "Folding Pathway I". This will allow players to complete it as intended.
- Adding clarity for Advanced Options buttons "Reset Roles" and "DELETE ALL OFFLINE PROGRESS"
- HBNets now show which atoms are incurring penalties.
- Added a 'grid' visualization that shows distances in angstroms.

quick comments

There's more discussion in #bugs-and-feedback on the Foldit Discord server, but here are some key points.

You may want to delete hotkeys.txt, which removes a lot of bad hotkey assignments introduced in the last release or two. If you have a lot of custom hotkeys, by all means save a copy, then you can compare it to the new, radically shorter, hotkeys.txt, which contains *only* modified hotkeys.

Deleting hotkeys.txt clears up a lot of issues with wiggle, mutate, and other hotkeys, which had drifted away from their selection interface defaults recently.

The new F1 hotkey for help doesn't work in Windows. The binding can be changed in Configure Keyboard Shortcuts, but CKS doesn't allow entering function keys. Using he hotkey Alt+H as the default for help would be more consistent with the other new side menu hotkeys.

Alt+B for behavior, Alt+C for cookbook, and Alt+V for view options will take some getting used to, but maybe I can adapt.

(Edit: clarified that Help does appear in Configure Keyboard Shortcuts, also starting by deleting hotkeys.txt is a good idea.)

changes to hotkeys.txt

The new fix really changes hotkeys.txt.

The goal seems to be to have hotkeys.txt include only changes to default settings.

If you start with an old hotkeys.txt, you'll still end up with a lot of fossilized entries in there. These fossils apparently don't have defaults, and most likely don't do anything anymore. (Keywords starting with SELECTION or SOCIAL are examples, along with unbound keywords for recipes.)

Saving your old hotkeys.txt, then deleting it and starting up Foldit should result in an empty hotkeys.txt, with just opening and closing braces. As you change defaults, some actual entries will appear in there.

Recipes and now view presets won't appear in hotkeys.txt until they actually have hotkeys assigned.

Some keywords seem to have gone missing. The G shortcut for Align Guide is now Gone. There doesn't seem to be an action bar icon for Align Guide, but guide-related functions are still in View Options and Open/Share Solutions.

How about an android version? I would love to spend my spare time trying to advance medical science! I know there are plenty of people like me out there too. It would also be a great project for your programming students because lots of employers want experienced app developers.
