A shift key is just a shift key, but the others like control, command, and alt require some translation.

For example, the Windows shortcut to adjust near visibility is control plus alt plus click and drag on the background.

What's the correct way to describe that for Mac, assuming no changes to the default shortcuts?

What are some of the other ways hotkeys (keyboard shortcuts) are different on the Mac?

Somewhat related, over on the wiki, the "Shortcut Keys" page is now called Hotkey, but the old address still works. The page itself needs some work, since it doesn't mention the "configure keyboard shortcuts" option.

Naming Schemes (according to wikipedia)

Just did a quick lookup on the Wikipedia article about Apple Keyboards. The General way seems to be:

Command (⌘): Combination of Control and Windows key. Normally replaces Control in shortcut keys. (As an example: ctrl-s becomes ⌘-s). If used with a Windows computer, functions as the Windows Key.
Option (⌥): Originally for entering diacritics and other special characters. Also functions as a modifier key. If used with a Windows computer, functions as the alt key.
ctrl: Not the same as the Windows ctrl key. Mostly used for right clicking (Mac trackpads only left click by default, and use ctrl+click for right click). Also used as a third modifier.
fn: Used to toggle function key use.

thanks, that's helpful

Thanks for the reply, wikipedia beats what I could find from Apple. I still need to have another look at the hotkey article on the wiki to see what needs to be done.

I'll post a separate thread on this, but I've been thinking about the Home key. It's always been described as being "on Windows". But we've had hotkeys.txt for a while now. There's a key MISC_RECENTER_CAMERA in hotkeys.txt, that defaults to "Home". Unfortunately, this mapping is not included in the "Configure Keyboard Shortcuts" dialog. I'm thinking that a brave Mac user could edit hotkeys.txt, substitute a key combination that's available on Mac, and try it out.
