Foldit kept freezing and crashing. I noticed it happened after I added a recipe and then again when I was running an recipe that banded 2 pairs at a time and when it got to 88 it froze. I could not end application or process or X out the window. I had to hard reboot my computer. When I logged back it said that "The game has previously not started correctly. If this problem persists, please install the latest version", and then two applications began one was frozen the other trying to load. So I had to reboot again. I uninstalled and reinstalled, then I find out I lost all of my score is still showing up as it was before the freeze/crash but my designs and progress is lost to me.

I had been saving progress and naming my puzzles by my new score, but those are now gone when I reinstalled. :( Why would Foldit tell me to reinstall and then make me lose my progress>!!?My score was 13428 in the Coronavirus beginner puzzle and 9303 in the OFR8 prediction puzzle...But now I don't have my work on those puzzles anymore :( I am very discouraged that I lost my progress....Unfortunately, I have been working on these puzzles for almost 20 days with my daughter while in isolation. We have spent a lot of time working on these solutions together and spent many many days running recipes. We then find out we have lost all this progress is more than upsetting for an adult, and crushing for a teenager who worked hard for nothing. Absolutely no gamer or scientist would work tirelessly days on end in a lab that kept losing their work! As a player one would think that Foldit would have a backup copy in case of a crash. Sigh....I had been recommending FOLDIT to all my fellow educators and friends to join and play....I do not recommend wasting time and energy working for months on solutions that FOLDIT can't back up due to apparent consistent freezes and bugs in the recipes.

Again, please do not type feedbacks repetitively. We deeply appreciate posting your unfortunate concern here but please do not submit multiple feedbacks.

Right now, Foldit developers are working to solve your tragic problem about freeze crashes and other issues just like yours. Sorry for your loss.

You did not waste your time. Your protein will be restored, this crashing will be resolved, and everything will be alright sooner or later. :D I do know how one would feel if this had occurred to me. Nevertheless, don't worry! Just be more careful. Some sources tell me that it has something to do with networking problems or memory usage.

Stay well!

My apologies for the three post in different sections...and so I will continue here...I got a warning "The game has previously not started correctly. If this problem persists, please install the latest version" (picture attached) which caused me to re-install....had I not been cued to do this...I would not have lost my work. It is not my computer as everything else I had going was running fine. If I can't close Foldit from the X or from my task manager there is a problem.

Perhaps there should be a forewarning or disclaimer to all players that if you ever uninstall and re-install when prompted by Foldit to do so, all your past work will be lost if it was not shared. Maybe had that warning been given, I would not have followed the Foldit warning as per the picture attached. I don't know why there are inferences that my puzzle will be restored or my time was not wasted, as it was. I don't see my work here, and yet if the server saved it, and the scientist are looking at them all...then why can't I get my puzzle back so I can continue to work on it and it is going to expire. I also recovered files with a recovery program but seems like I can't open them from Foldit anyhow. I won't recommend anyone else waste time being productive only to have it all lost when Foldit freezes or prompts you to update or reinstall...unless I am told by tech that my puzzle has been restored from the server, so I can continue to work on it again...the 20 some days... sometimes 18 hours a day spent already trying to solve this problem on Foldit ended up being a big waste of my time and energy now that I have lost it. Why take a second chance working here on solutions when others are also trying to solve the problem with more reliable software or tools? Disappointed is an understatement
