Description: FoldIt for Biochem 1090 2018

Welcome to Fold-it. This is a public science 'game' which was designed by REAL scientists who are able to learn about HOW protein fold, based on how 'participants' play the game.

This is an on-line “game” format puzzle for folding proteins. REAL proteins are modeled (in the game, we will be doing the learning modules) Scientists have learned more about how HIV proteins and other proteins involved in diseases fold, by modeling them in this venue.
The game initiated with David Baker and Seth Cooper who designed it to fold proteins using “rules”
consistent with actual protein folding parameters…. In this game format YOU can see the motions of proteins, clashes of amino acids and see and understand proteins in three dimensions.

This is an example of “Public Science” as people “learn the rules” for folding proteins and get points for good folds. Scientists have learned NEW folds because people “invent” them and this has helped understand protein folding research.
YOU will learn basics about protein folding
