Developer Preview Release Soon

Hey everyone,

We have a small update coming out with a few fixes/changes. Notes below!

Tools:
* The Blueprint, Rama Map, Idealize, and IdealizeSS tools will now “move” the smallest number of residues, keeping the majority of residues fixed

Bug fixes:
* Several bug fixes involving various drug design tools.
* A small experimental change that may help with symmetry related crashes.

Which residues to move

It's great that you are working on the issue of the tools moving the "wrong" set of residues (wrong being the set the player doesn't want to move). If we could just add player choice to the behavior (say, by not moving the set that contains a frozen segment) it would be perfect.

We'd like to add this too! Hopefully we'll be able to get to it soon.

Other issues

I haven't noticed any of these problems. What about client scoreboards losing synch? What about clients locking up when changing tracks, saving files, refreshing saved files, exiting clients? I experiences these issues daily and uninstalling, reinstalling the client doesn't help.

On different computers, OSes

One desktop is running Windows 10, the other, Windows Vista. Same problems on both computers.

Other issues

We know that this update doesn't address the most severe problems afflicting Foldit players right now. Most of those are complex bugs that are difficult to track down—but we're working on them!

In the meantime, though, we still want to push out minor fixes as they come together.

Moving the smaller number

This will make it necessary to change some recepies that made a cut before applying idealize. I rather would be able to say the direction like Susume says AND have a LUA function for that.

thanks for the updates Jflat and...

Keep the news on what's going on and what's been fixed coming. We know you're working hard to balance figuring out the tough issues while keeping up with the desired changes for the science goals. While the Mac client still has some of those above mentioned tough issues - you have made good progress. (I will keep posting my bug feedback, haven't been on top of it for a few weeks due to work but have resumed now.

Following up on the above...

I noticed that if I turn off a lot of graphics features for the monomers that the processor use decreases as expected and allows me to run two monomer clients safely.... but with the current updates processor and memory use is quite a bit heavier than it was a couple updates back (when things were working pretty well, more stable than the current updates.) and significantly more crash prone. The Blueprint update seems to be where to look to eliminate the crashes and possible memory leaks. (see below)

In addition to the quit crashes (which I experience fairly regularly on Mac running Sierra OS 10.12.5) I am now experiencing quite frequent Double free and Segmentation Fault 11 and one other that sounds like its the same as Double free, something about the pointer freed not being allocated... exclusively on the monomer puzzles. Also my system log is showing a lot of lines saying something like "possible memory leak" ... Have recorded a large number of crashes from the past 3 weeks so there are lots of log files to be pored over in Feedback.

Secondary note: Got rid of Google products on my machine (I only use one google product now, Youtube, but if I visit Youtube when I'm done I close the browser window so I solved the finder freeze up issue for the most part by clearing out any google updaters or apps. The updaters for google were running in background and conflicting with various other things on my Mac... it's been cleared out for 3 weeks and I have had no related finder freezes and only one Safari crash (while I had Youtube open) so it's pretty clear that was what was stopping my system dead in its tracks.

So with that eliminated, the above issues still remain.
