Greetings,

I updated my Windows 8.1 HP Pavilion to Windows 10 a few days ago. Foldit seems to the only casualty of the upgrade to 10.

Foldit starts and seems to be working fine, but after several minutes, something happens, and Windows shuts it down. If I restart Foldit, it starts up ok, but then after a few minutes, the same thing happens. I've searched the web, but no solution. I removed Foldit, and re-installed it, but the Foldit still has the exact same problem. Everything else on the computer seems to be working fine.

Is there any solution?

Thanks.

Richard.

Foldit Crashing

First, make sure you are accepting any new updates.

I've been running foldit on both of my Windows 10 computers for months and no major issues with foldit. Sometimes when a new update is released foldit can crash until the bugs are fixed. Excluding updates foldit does crash now and then. If you are crashing more than a few times a week there may be an issue.

If you can post the puzzle number and what you are doing when the crash occurs, for example using "Wiggle Backbone" action, this will help the programmers more quickly determine the cause and fix the problem.

Spoke too soon

OK, I spoke too soon. Switched over from my desktop to laptop (both running Windows 10). I've now crashed 7 times on my laptop. Twice I was not even working on a puzzle. I was posting a message to chat. The crashes are occurring within five minutes of starting foldit. My desktop is not having any problems with crashes. Both computers have the latest Windows updates.

Error message:

Foldit.exe has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is
available.

That looks almost exactly like the problem I'm experiencing.

TomTaylor opened a feedback

TomTaylor opened a feedback on this topic, we should probably add further discussion there. Feedbacks may get more attention than the forum, but it's hard to be sure.

Actually

Feedbacks are great for this sort of report, and are more suited to track. The forum, however, is read with equal regularity but best suited to exactly everything that isn't a bug or crash report.

I read everything.
