we still have 2 ranking systems here.....but the legacy ranking system is not working (for groups at least)

Since this is a game (therefore relying on ranking) can we please have this issue sorted out?

`personally I see no point in having 2 concurrent ranking systems - but if they must be then can we have them both working?

please square this issue away - it's been far too long now.

I think even foldit has now had enough time on this one.

Please just sort this out - pretty fed up with it now.

:) as always

In the same line on rankings, I feel that the 2 current rankings have the risk of blinding the real top "Creators" (authors of the best starting design for a top scoring final result).

Soloist ranking now need 2 types of skills:
- good hand fold skill
- good skill of "evolving" own starting design (selecting right recipes on the right time)

This could blind "genious" hand folders in the ranking . And make them stopping folding ....

We can still observes these expert pure hand folders when they share their solution in our groups, that we further evolve.

The Hand Folding puzzle category does not overcome this problem enough in my opinion: it's too boring making several repetitive tasks only to "fix" a new macro design. A typical good hand folder today also uses some advanced scripts in the mean time, only to "fix" an intuitive macro design.

Is there any mean to reward a soloist who is the start of a top ranking final solution? (other than saying "thanks" in a group chat?

Suggestion:

-giving a bonus to the "first designer" of a final top solution, something like
Bonus = 10 - [rank of the final solution] or 0.

The bonus is automatic for any pure soloist not in group.

Example for puzzle 1132

Best evolved different solutions (from evolver list)
1 Bruno Kestemont 7 9 Go Science 12,234 100
9 retiredmichael 10 1 Beta Folders 12,188 83

18 Blipperman 18 16 Gargleblasters 11,929 677

Best scoring soloists:
1 hpaege 98 20 12,294 100
2 johnmitch 114 4 12,147 98

15 mirp 8 2 Go Science 11,834 72
16 actiasluna 17 Gargleblasters 11,819 70

Best resulting overall different solutions:

1 hpaege 98 20 12,294 100
2 Bruno Kestemont Go Science 12,234 100 evo of pauldunn ?
3 retiredmichael Beta Folders 12,188 83 evo of retiredmichael ?
4 mimi 15 19 Contenders 12,175 76 evo of gitwut ?
5 johnmitch 114 4 12,147 98
6 Goochie 5 11 Beta Folders 12,134 96
7 pauldunn 23 7 Go Science 12,036 94
8 gitwut 49 13 Contenders 12,023 92
9 Bruno Kestemont Go Science 11,996 89
10 gloverd 6 17 Go Science 11,970 87
11 retiredmichael Beta Folders 11,955 85
12 Blipperman 18 Gargleblasters 11,929 677 evo of actiasluna ?
13 pvc78 107 39 Beta Folders 11,915 83

Bonus calculation for soloist score
1 hpaege +9
2 pauldunn +8
3 retiredmichael +7
4 gitwut +6
5 johnmitch +5
6 Goochie +4
7=0 pauldunn --- duplicate
8=0 gitwut --- duplicate
9=7 Bruno Kestemont +3
10=8 gloverd +2
11=0 retiredmichael --- duplicate
12=9 pvc78 +1

Revised soloist scores:

1 hpaege 98 20 12,294 100+9 = 109
2 johnmitch 114 4 12,147 98 +5 = 103
3 Goochie 5 11 Beta Folders 12,134 96 +4 = 100
4 pauldunn 23 7 Go Science 12,036 94 +8 = 102
5 gitwut 49 13 Contenders 12,023 92 +6 = 98
6 Bruno Kestemont Go Science 11,996 89 +3 = 92
7 gloverd 6 17 Go Science 11,970 87 +2 = 89
8 retiredmichael Beta Folders 11,955 85 +7 = 102
9 pvc78 107 39 Beta Folders 11,915 83 +1 = 84

or you just add another rank of "Creators".

I'm not sure what two rankng systems you're talking about. Nothing has changed in years on the ranking system.

And, as usual, Bruno has managed to make his suggestion as complicated and impossible to understand as possible.

Let's not spend energy fixing something that's not broken.

Sorry, I'll try to make it more clear (I had beautiful tables on screen, but when saving it gave this horrible display).

Foldit (and groups and evolvers) needs players able to make the right first design (first hours of hand folding).

When evolving in my successive teams, I've seen great designers but some of them never got to any top ranking. Just making the right design and sharing it to the team.

In CASP11 results, these "first soloist" are identified. I suppose that the Foldit team can identify the successive contributors to a result?

The problem is that many of these "unnoticed great soloists" stop playing after some time. How to reward them?

If they are "great soloists" then they should be in the top soloist rankings.

It sounds like you want to reward mediocre soloists who can't take their design to the top of the solo efforts in each puzzle. Maybe they aren't such good soloists after all?

Or maybe they are happy providing good solutions for their team to evolve, in which case they should be helping to evolve their own designs and get rewarded that way.
