It would be great if you create a french version of your software.

Je suis désolé, mon Anglais est très moyen.

Bonjour!
Comme vous devez l'imaginer, je suis francais, et cela me plairait beaucoup qu'une version française sorte.
Ne comprennant que très légèrement l'anglais, j'ai beaucoup de mal à "aider la science".
Cordialement

In my opinion, it would be very good for foldit to develop a multi-languange interface, like the one of BOINC or something else. I think that there will be plenty of volunteers from all over the world to help.

Translation of the message of Thomas:
As a french, it would be great for me to have a french version. As I don't know much english, I have a lot of difficulties in "helping the science to advance".

Salut Tomas!
J'ai trouve ca:

Peut-etre ca t'aideras un peu pour comprendre comment ca marche. ^^

i agree that a multi language would be beneficial to the program because for a few days now i've seen people with low knowlegde of english trying to play but failing even in understanding the tutorial.

and if u need help in translating i wouldnt mind helping to translate to portuguese.

The original English tutorial instructions can be seen in the wiki.
A German translation of the tutorial instructions is also available in the wiki.

Maybe some other people could add hints or other translations.

Thank you!

Great initiative, Madde! There is now also a Swedish version of the article Tutorial Puzzles in the wiki. In late January I could do a Finnish and a Danish tutorial, as well.

I agree, it would be great to have support for multiple languages built into Foldit. How is that done in games, usually? Would you choose your language when you first run the game? We'd have to move all our text into separate text files, but that might be a good idea anyway…

Just to let you know, I'll probably be changing the levels around a lot in the next few weeks, so most of those translations will become obsolete, unfortunately. :p If you want though I could post my proposed level text in the forums for easier access before the updates go out. Would that help?

I kept the English original text of the tutorial and its German translation updated.
Nina's Swedish translation is outdated at the moment.

Any volunteers for other translations?

…to translate other Articles than just the Tutorial Puzzles? I could translate some into german if needed.

Normally, commercial games come in localised versions, meaning not only (95% cases) hardcoded language but also what you could call "censored" (different countries have different laws to sex, violence or in germany especially Nazis)

However, Open Source / free games have a different aproach and quite often it is solved with exactly that - text files.
Of course you have to make sure that text boxes "respect" longer translations and not cut them.

An example of a file I worked on:
http://www.lennstar.de/xforce/deutsch.dat (just open with an text editor or rename to .txt)
A file like this would allow translations by everyone.
The game should have an option to change language and would allow all textfiles from a subdirectory (named as the language like this file). Thats the easiest way I think for foldit.
Of course, one subdirectory with several .txt for different parts of the game are also possible (e.g. tutorials, menu text, other texts…), that would allow easier partial translations.
