Hi, I'm Kristein. I was born in Canada, raised in Netherlands, now residing in New Zealand.
Started playing this at the suggestion of someone I know, found I enjoyed it. :)
Actually, started in May of 2008, shortly after the game went public. The pat-on-the-back markers regarding my contributions is also totally skewed from what I did, in terms of the number of things I suggested that were later incorporated, bugs reported, assistance to newbs provided, etc.
In foldit, as in life, it does one well to remember that often times, the most subtle perturbation can result in the most pronounced effect, and that at others, a sledge hammer is required to make the most resistant move even a little. On Rebuild: xiando> xidawg: define Rebuildxidawg> Rebuild is an auto-erratic function that plays with itself until you make it quit. And a Foldit "best moment" for me goes something like this...
>rmmule "this is hard">rmmule "y are you even playing this?">Nicky666 "because it's hard"
and"DarkJMKnight: Meh... I just don't have the time for vague instructions. I get enough of those at work."The mind is a beautiful and terrifying place, full of chaos and order, dancing in an endless duel from birth to death
“If the streams flowing through the swamp froze as ice-nine , what about the rivers and lakes the streams fed?” “They’d freeze. But there is no such thing as ice-nine.” “And the oceans the frozen rivers fed?” “They’d freeze, of course,” Dr. Breed snapped. “I suppose you’re going to rush to market with a sensational story about ice-nine now. I tell you again, it does not exist!” “And the springs feeding the frozen lakes and streams, and all the water underground feeding the springs?” “They’d freeze, damn it!” he cried. “But if I had known that you were a member of the yellow press,” he said grandly, rising to his feet, “I wouldn’t have wasted a minute with you!” “And the rain?” “When it fell, it would freeze into hard little hobnails of ice-nine — and that would be the end of the world! And the end of the interview, too! Good-bye!”
...
Dr. Breed was mistaken about at least one thing: there was such a thing as ice-nine. And ice-nine was on Earth.

Actually, I've been playing two years in Foldit. My experiences are more or less negligible. But other players have taught me a lot of interesting things ... As CharlieFortsConscience. He taught me something I did not know about puzzle design ... lol My homepage: folditsolvepuzzlesforscience.blogspot.com In Spanish for new players with foldit First Soloist of this week: 01/09/2010 to 07/09/2010
Hi, my name is Alex, and usually I´m a craftsman for industrial electronic devices, but at the moment I'm looking forward for other jobs because of the bad job situation and health reasons.
As a long-time participant of BOINC (I started with seti@home, when BOINC wasn´t even "born") and also Rosetta, I´ve discovered this interesting piece of software. It is good to know that our kind of "playing" could help developing new medicines to fight AIDS or cancer (I myself have got a (benign) tumor in my head) and prevent or minimize animal testing and development costs.
I fold on different PCs, because my PC at home is quite slow, I mostly use it for writing recipes only. Programming is a hobby of me (I started on a Commodore 64 with BASIC (and a very little bit Assembler) in the end of the 80s, on different PCs later QBASIC, some C and Tracker software like FT2; now VBASIC, and because if Fold.it now Lua)
I FOLD.......THEREFORE.......I AM!!!!!!!
