New Category: Experimental!
We've just created a new puzzle category - the Experimental category.
We're trying out this category as a way to introduce new puzzle types that aren't necessarily fit for prime time quite yet. If a puzzle is out of devprev testing, but we're still in a state of heavy refinement, we've added the Experimental category to keep it segregated from the normal puzzles.
This is useful because, if there are issues with the puzzle, they wont affect your Overall or other category scores. It also gives credit to players who are adapting to the new rulesets the fastest!(Fri, 09/08/2017 - 20:34 | 3 comments)
New Paper out of the Baker Lab
Recently, a group from the Baker lab published a paper in Science describing a high-throughput way to test lots of protein designs at once. That paper is now available, but only though a specific link on the Baker lab website. To view the paper, head to the Baker lab site and click on second item listed (Global analysis of protein folding using massively parallel design, synthesis, and testing).(Fri, 09/01/2017 - 21:53 | 2 comments)
Welcome to our new Mods!
Hey, everyone! After discussion with the current mods and the Foldit admin team, we’d officially like to welcome actiasluna, LociOiling, and tokens to the moderator team. Our sincerest thanks to the three of you, and as always, to all Foldit players for everything you do!(Wed, 08/23/2017 - 22:27 | 0 comments)

Foldit at RosettaCON
Foldit will have a continued presence at RosettaCON next week. RosettaCON is an "annual conference […] where Rosetta Commons member laboratories share the latest experimental and computational research breakthroughs in protein and macromolecular engineering and structure prediction." We've just pushed an update with a new type of puzzle. Notes below!
* New puzzle type: Sketchbook Puzzles (name pending). These puzzles are intended to focus your folding on the early-game. Upon starting or resetting the puzzle, you'll get a budget of some number of moves. Your current fold is completed when you run out of moves. Then it's time to move on and try something else!
Updates from the Foldit Team
Here are some things the Foldit team has been working on lately:
- jflat06 has just put out a release with a new puzzle type and is working on various bug fixes (electron density crash on Linux, symmetry crash on Windows, and working on stability of the Mac build).
- bkoep has been busy testing Foldit players' designs in the lab (see image at bottom).
- scooper is working with some students on developing an interface for playing Foldit on touchscreen devices. He is also working with a student to update tutorial levels.
