beta posted a link on another feedback showing that UW is describing the outages as "delays accessing the internet." They may not realize unless someone at foldit tells them, that what looks like just a delay to someone inside UW ends up being a complete outage for all of foldit chat, in that everyone gets dropped and the only people who get reconnected are those who do so manually or who happen to restart their game for some other reason. We are seeing deflated numbers in chat even as much as 24 hrs after each outage.

Yeah, we're hoping UW-IT's upgrades today will solve these issues once and for all:

As of 4pm Monday, UW-IT has upgraded both campus network security devices per vendor recommendations. The system appears to be stable. UW-IT will continue to monitor the network performance as classes and normal operations resume on Tuesday.

anybody notice any major issues today?

Updated 01/21/2014 at 17:16:36
The network is running in the vendor recommended configuration and has been stable during production use today. Two short (under one minute) packet loss events were seen at 1AM and 8:50AM respectively today. Some additional testing is planned with the vendor tonight. The next update will be provided no later than Wednesday Jan. 23, 2014 at 5pm

Hopefully everything will be stable for the Scientist Chat!
