Hi!

A couple of times already I've found myself reluctant to open a new track,
to try new things, etc.
Always with the thought "oh, I'll end up with a gazillion tracks and lose all oversight."

Since, for some reason, I can't delete any tracks.
I stumbled upon a conversation in global chat about the very subject, and it seems I am far from alone with this thought.

So, I would like to suggest a feature to delete tracks, with a confirmation pop-up, or two maybe. :p
Perhaps even with a built-in autosave, that saves the tracks highest score and current solution under the names "trackname"Current and "trackname"HighScore. Just to avoid certain mishaps and accidents concerning losing solutions.

And please don't reply with "you can delete the folder," etc., some may know, not many do, and I don't think everyone would like to mess in the installdir of their client to do something as seemingly simple as delete a track. So why not make such a feature accesible to all?

On a sidenote: maybe create a tutorial puzzle to get people acquainted with the entire possibility of creating tracks? Although I have no idea how you could make it so that they only pass puzzle when they do create one...

Okay, I got it saved, I added screenshots of the page I got earlier and mentioned to tamirh in gobal chat.
Maybe because I clicked "Preview" first?

On tracks on tutorial :
There are 32 tutorials and even if they can suppress some(DNA for example), all the tools in foldit cannot explain in them.
I think it is good that tutorials show tool useful to fold and only that.
They dont show recipes, tab on a segment to know the score, view options and many other tools.

The wiki is the best place to put these informations. Thom wanted that explanations on tracks are easy to find and they are mentionned in the FAQ and on th firts page of the wiki.

The number of tracks is not limited.

Marie, the issue is not the apparent unlimited # of tracks, the problem IS the apparent unlimited # of tracks. Today for example on 699, running 8 clients with tracks for an evo from wisky, found out the track was basically useless and without merit. Still I have to contend with keeping it on the list of tracks and forcing my limited vision to continue to look at it and probably inadvertently selecting again when I really intend to do something else.
Foldit does not exist to go around teaching anyone how to dig into the foldit directories, if a feature exists where information is added to the client, then a feature needs to exist by which that information can be deleted when it proves itself unneeded, much like the ' undo ' feature. Foldit needs to be lean and mean, not bloated with junk that no longer serves a purpose for the person using it.
If tracks are to be used efficiently by the people, then some sort of deletion needs to be added so that those tracks that are created prove useful to the people creating them, else we end up with a virtually unlimited # of tracks, hard to find, sometimes even harder to remember what they mean, that in fact only clutter what we are trying to accomplish.

Bump because every dev/mod is ignoring this ?

The mods have no power at all over ingame changes

And this mod voted your suggestion up - it would be excellent to be able to delete tracks.

I work early game in low CI - but when you make a new track it defaults back to normal CI. I have littered my tracks a few times by forgetting to change the CI when making a new track, and having to make yet another - with a name far too similar to what I wanted in the first place.

Don't worry Murlow, this issue and several other in-game changes that need to be addressed will not disappear from feedback, It is extremely important tho, that this feedback continues to sit on the first page, else the devs have a small habit of forgetting nice features that should have been incorporated into the client early and quickly.
Keep bumping it, just make sure you address the Devs when you do. Don't want to make Auntie or the other mods upset. And it would be nice to get more UP votes too, sooner or later the Devs pay attention..

Can I assign this to tamirh? ;-)

Honestly, if this is easy to do... the Foldit Devs can address it.
The main issue for us always is prioritizing.

We try to address the most urgent issues first: for example, server is slow, game keeps crashing, I hate centroid mode :-P
while also trying to address your suggestions that make Foldit easier (such as the search box in the Puzzle Menu).

For suggestions, the more players vote it up, the sooner we'll try to get to it... unless of course it's very complicated to implement (which is why the "pause function for recipes" is still the most voted unresolved feedback... that one is just very complicated to fix).

This is currently ranked 7th by votes, so we'll hopefully get to it soon!

jflat06 has posted a workaround for deleting tracks (until we have a chance to address this):

to remove a track, you can do so manually by removing the directory FOLDIT/puzzles/PUZZLE_ID/PLAYER_ID/trackname.

I agree. Not being able to delete dead end or erroneous tracks makes things very confusing. The frustration created sometimes leads to abandoning one's best effort for a particular puzzle.

If there is some grave difficulty with deleting the tracks, can we at least edit the title of the track so we know which ones are defunct?

This should be in the next update. In the meantime, feel free to edit/remove tracks by going to the puzzles/PUZZLE_ID/PLAYER_ID/ directory, and renaming/removing your track directory there (avoid messing with the default directory, or bad things may happen).
