When i try play game i got error "The game has previously not started up correctly
If this problem persists please install the lastest version" i try reinstaling few times. I have win7 and allways use "open as admin" can you help ?

P.S. Probably no need to re-install by-the-way, that message is definitely because of saturation / performance issues at the server end they are currently being addressed (see latest message from U Washington on the site's front page)

I get this error as well, for a fresh install. Perhaps it has something to do with administrator rights, and in the log, it says that it couldn't access the cryptographic provider or something like that. This definitely should be fixed. So that it doesn't need administrator rights to install or run.
This error message is preventing you from play the game? I get it sometimes after crash, but just continue and move on.
you get that message after your game crashes, you can generally ignore it.
I used to get that all the time when I was on a dialup connection. It never prevented me loading the game
Yup, the game won't even start up on the first run after it has installed. And then after I've waited minutes and minutes for it to run, then I double-click on the foldit.exe application, and it still won't run, but gives me that error message. The game won't run when I have checked "run foldit after exit" after I've installed it. Then when I click the icon to run it, I get that error message.

I'm having the same issue. After clicking "OK" it takes me to a small window and then it gives me the "foldit.exe has stopped working: A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available" error, and I'm forced to close it. I've tried re-installing and restarting multiple times, but the installation fails to deliver. Is this only an issue with Windows 7 users?

I'll just run a linux livecd, install wine, and run the windows version off of that.
Hm, I'm able to run it in safe mode with networking, but the graphics are very rudimentary.

not sure that posting it help in anything but i realy want play this game and Im asking for help again
(im allways do open as admin so this should not be the issue)
Upgrade computer.
Install on a different machine.
Install a new operating system (linux, perhaps, on a loop partition or a different drive) and try running on that.
Run an emulator that emulates a different operating system and try running on the OS in the emulator.

I still don't understand what the heck I'm supposed to do to FIX it!!!
If the game would still run after you press OK, you can simply ignore the message because that would be a false positive. This can occur, for example, if you open two copies of Foldit simultaneously. (The error message would show up in this situation because the first copy of the client hasn't properly loaded entirely before the second client is run.)
the only problem is that it *doesn't* open after I hit "OK".

This shouldn't happen... have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling foldit?
No, mainly because I'm worried that doing that will undo the fact that I've finished the intro puzzles, a few of which took me quite a while to complete. Will that not happen?
Each installation of Foldit has its own player and puzzle files, which has benefits and disadvantages. You will need to do the intro puzzles on the new installation, but they will still be done on your old installation (if you install into a different place). I would suggest copying all of your foldit directory out of program files into your own home directory. If that doesn't work, do a fresh install into C:\foldit, and copy your player and puzzle files into that.
So what you're saying is that I should install it again, but in a different folder? And which files should I copy to elsewhere if I re-install it? And I think I should have mentioned this before, but I have it installed on a USB. Oops.

Iam a first time user after watching the TV program NOVA , my problem is that it just wont start for me ? it took me 5 mins just to get into this forum , I am not downloading or running another program , just trying to log into FOLD IT , after 10 attempts and several reboots and reinstall I was forced to come here to find out if the fold it server is crashed or what is going on ? I want to be a part of this global union and help my fellow humanoid .
With the influx of new users after the NOVA airing, our servers are under heavy load. That's why you're seeing such long load times on the website. The client also communicates with the server and it will get slowed down as well. If it seems to hang you can try and leave the client open and see if it connects. If that doesn't work, you can also try again tomorrow when there are not so many people trying to connect all at once.
If you're still having troubles, let us know what error message you're getting and we will look into it.

Hi WindVlad, I'm also on Win7 and have been getting this message on occasion since the recent influx of new folders :-) ... However in the last 24 hours performance has improved somewhat, so hopefully this annoyance will become less frequent. Welcome to the game, and may your difficulties be less about getting on and more about folding the proteins!
