I don't know if this is meant to happen but I can restore some of my saved solutions from 408 to the 409 game and they become labelled 409.

Same there. Loaded old solution and get on board.

This is an intended feature. In this particular case it appears to not have worked out how we wanted (since people are just able to load in their solutions and immediately get up at the top of the scoreboard), but in general, we think that your work from previous rounds shouldn't go to waste in the new rounds.

I'm not sure how this is going to discourage the 'exploration convergence' that is such a problem. Especially if each of the first 3 rounds will only be open for 2 days each.

So at this point, since I couldn't get on the scoreboard in the first round, I really shouldn't waste my time on rounds 2 thru x , since all the hot-shots from round 1 will perpetually be on the top of the leaderboard.

That's quite some negative incentive. I can't see how this was thought out at all...

The idea is that the areas which were explored in the first round will become less valuable in the second round, since the contact map becomes more saturated in those areas. However, the saturation doesn't appear to be enough to actually discourage people from using their old solutions.

Loading in solutions from the previous rounds isn't supposed to give a huge unfair advantage to people who were competitive in the last round (as it does right now). The real purpose is to give you starting points at the fringe of exploration that you can then use to branch out from during the second round.

We could just give you guys the starting structure as we did in the first round, but you'd end up having to do so much work just to get out of the well-explored areas that you wouldn't get much actual exploring done. We don't want you guys spending hours trying to replicate work from previous rounds by hand.

But if you don't have a good solution to load from a previous round, you're stuck with all the work anyway, and not much chance of contributing.

Perhaps the scores for this mess should all be zeroed until these kinds of issues are resolved. consider this an extended development process.

Intended - it has to be like that :)
Scoring system changed.
Closing.
