Are these all occurring only on Windows?
Looks alike.
Confirmed on chat working linux by thom002 and working mac by aunt_deen.
Just downloaded fresh install and skipped update to play :)
Crashes under Win 7 pro x64 also.
Perhaps it dont like french regional option like comma in numbers.
It works for me with english regional options
Marie- I customized regional [French/Canada] number format from "," to "." Same problem. Still... -LaVergne
YES!
There is problem when windows locale settings NOT have "." (point) as decimal separator.
I change mine "," to "." and game is working. :)
PLZ fix it asap :)
IE just add a paremater -nolocale to exe file ;]
rav3n_pl, thanks for you figuring it out we can recreate the problem in lab conditions. Fix will be coming out soon.
Credit goes to Marie, I only followed hers hunch :)
I have the same problem this morning with foldit with windows 7

Problem:
- foldit client crashes after update when loading puzzle or when try to move side chain in intro puzzle
- you have NOT English windows and/or non-english regional options
Cause (probably):
- client use regional options when importing scoring database(s)
- database use "." as decimal, regional options have another sign
WORKAROUND:
- open control panel
- open "regional options" applet
- change decimal character to "." (dot) or language to English (apply!)
- run client, load puzzle
- you may change back regional options
You need to change regional options always b4 you run client.
Tested on XP SP3 32 bit.
If I must enter control panel, then alter language/region options from French/Canada every single time I play Foldit, then such a workaround is neither workable, viable, nor practicable.
Am usually working on other projects simultaneously. Have not been able to download all afternoon (Saturday, ET) and have lost points, place.
Other global solutions??
Somebody knows how to to this on apple computer ?
It crashes on linux too when using another locale that en_US.
To avoid that, run a terminal then type :
export LANG=en_US.UTF-8
./Foldit
This should change your locale only for the terminal session and Foldit.
yesterday it didn't work.
This morning it was working.
This afternoon, it doesn't work again.
I'm on Mac.
Can you explain me why?
tx
Works for MAC - Snow Leopard!
Had to change region to United-Kingdom!
Where do i change? 'In langage and script' for all mu computer? or can i choose only for foldit?
I put english too but it still crashes when i click on the puzzle
the problem is that before i had no crash, so something happened but what?
ok i understood, i changed finally the region!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
tx
D'ac. Now that I have customized control panel from French/Canada regional formatting to English, I can resume play -solely in English. But, surely, this was not the objective of the translation initiative ???
Now mine is crashing - not sure if this is any use Win 7 64bit

I just had a Crash again when trying to load Puzzle 396. I changed the decimal Separator form , to . in the regional Settings and it works again.
I though that was fixed with the Update that came earlier today?
Happens for me on a german Win7 HomePremium, too. I would very much have wanted to try the game, but can't.
Cheers,
Rob
I reloaded foldit, but as before I could load level 1-1 but it crashes when I pull on the right chain. The left can be rotated. One cannot switch to the other levels. There is no chance to enjoy Foldit!

We've posted an update that should address this crash by disabling translation.
Great! I just received an update and I can go through level 1. Thank you!
Works for me too :)
foldit has been repeatedly abending. This last time, I've included the crash logs (as collected by Microsoft) if helpful. Thanks!
AppName: foldit.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: game_library.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 0063db8f

let me add that data again as an attachment since it was truncated.

foldit continues to crash. I've attached a second crash report. I will stop playing until someone has a chance to look into this. I can't play more than a few minutes before it dies. Also, my previous case should be listed as open not resolved.
I'm on Z400, Xeon w3530, 8GB RAM, Win XP Pro 2002, SP3
Thanks
Can you attache log.txt file that remains immediately after the crash? You can find it here:
# on Windows XP at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Foldit\
# on Windows 7 and Vista at C:\ProgramData\Foldit
Darn thing is down more than up. Where is the Language section in the control panel.?
No language section atm.

It looks like the translation problem with the decimal separator, which was causing the initial problem, has been fixed, so marking as resolved.

Ouch! Cant load normal puzzle too!
Second log.
