Shift -S Operator error?
I am unable to turn the guide off/on using Shift -S. However, Shift +V works for hiding/showing voids. OS 10.6.4 Safari

Try using the view menu for now:
"I went to View > Show Guide and unticked the check box. The guide went away and the hot-key worked again."
