I can't log on!

I tried to log in with my user and pass and I get this error: "couldn't connect to server: Error while fetching https://fold.it/portal/comm/whoami_csv:"
I don't use any proxy.
This problem does not seem related to any DNS error or performance problems on the server. I've tried accessing the URLs mentioned in the pop-up (taken from log.txt) manually through Firefox and that works just fine. Response is quick.
If you want me to provide more information on this, I'd be happy to do so.
Currently this is effectively blocking me from playing Foldit.
Well it could be cool because this game is fun! I'd like to try challenges soon though

Ubuntu 9.04 on a 64bit quad core intel platform.
just downloaded foldit today.
Similar error pops up when trying to register an account.
