Switching back to main from beta, why do we need to update ?
If the main is the same version, before Switching to beta.
By "from switching back to main," I obviously meant "TO SWITCH back to main."
infjamc Thank for the reply
yes, I know that the beta is a different version.
But could the beta work from a subdirectory.
I think there would be more participation in the BETA if it didn't require blasting youre MAIN client away, and then having to download and install it again.
We have asked before for this type of functionality, but the developers have refused to consider it.
If you didn't get it, you can go back to "main" if you rewrite the options.txt as written in the FAQ with "beta" or "main". It just takes time, but no installing.
Excuse me?
Perhaps you misunderstood.
when you load beta (by editing the options.txt) it downloads and installs a new version of the client.
When you switch back from beta to main, it does download the production version again.
If you don't want your production version settings trashed, it requires backing up the foldit installation, then restoring it.
As requested, why can't the beta be installed to a different folder?

Thank you for answering, infjamc and LennStar.

When you switched to beta, an "update" was needed because the beta is a different version. Hence, you need to "undo" the update from switching back to main. (Yes, I know that it's annoying, but that's how it works right now.)
