I have been using foldit on my home computer for months with no problems, but now when I login and show puzzles no puzzles display; however, on my work computer under the same usename name I get the latest puzzle. This only started happening a couple of days ago. (OS=Vista, plenty of Ram, disk, etc.)

I have a similar problem - the puzzle page does not display the actual protein.

I am trying FoldIt for the first time, and after downloading (and updating), I can not find any puzzles. Not even under the Intro Puzzles ("Start Here!"). I get a pop up saying "There are no puzzles in this group, Please select a different group".

Oh, when choosing to play off-line I can now play the Intro-puzzles.

Still, when opting for on-line, there are no puzzles at all.

Am I doing something obviously wrong?

do you have allowed foldit in the firewall? Perhaps there is a problem. Are you 2 also using Vista? What Firewall?
Perhaps the latest update isn't so well liked ;)

Not sure why this would suddenly change but if the update group is set to 'alpha" there will be no active puzzles

you may want to check the update_group variable in the options.txt file located:
on Windows XP at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Foldit\
on Windows Vista at C:\ProgramData\Foldit\
on a Mac, Ctrl-click on the app and choose "Show Package Contents, then go to Contents/Resources
on Linux, it is in the Foldit directory

change the update_group from "alpha" or whatever it is to "main" and restart fold.it

Thanks for trying guys. The "update_group" variable in options.txt is already set to "main", so that should be ok. The firewall is not an issue either.

I checked the log file after logging on last, and there seem to be a few problems to say the least. You guys spot anything?

Here are a few of them:

Those "Warning: Unable to locate database file" messages would lead me to believe the update was corrupted and its now missing files it needs to run. Usually it gives an error "Error during initialization:Your database appears to be corrupted. Please try reinstalling the application." have you tried a reinstall with a fresh download from the website?

Judecca ->
have tried to reinstall several times, but it seems to make little difference.

At the initial update screen, I can see no TCP/IP activity from the foldit.exe process. Are there any specific ports I need to forward in my router?

Later on I can see the app contacting the server, and I can see other players etc. But no puzzles.

If I change the options.txt from "main" to "alpha"/"beta" I do get a "Server is down..." message, but nothing on "main".

Any ideas would be helpful.

Cheers

This is most likely due to not updating and using an older version of the game. It should be fixed for the older version now, but it would be good to allow the game to update if possible.

Hi Seth,

I just dl'd the (win)version on the front page, assuming it was the latest. How do I know what version I am on, and how do I get a hold of the latest version, if thats not the one on the foldit.com page?

Look in the general options dialog. There should be a version number at the bottom.

From those error messages it looks like the game is timing out trying to connect to the server. Do you get them every time? Are you still able to log in?
