erroneous new message message

I have had an ongoing message telling me I have one new message. I dont. I have turned off the Aggressive notification of new messages which has taken care of the little message that comes on but I am still getting My Messages (1) at the top of my page.
Not a major problem but one that has persisted for several weeks.

Looks like a bug in the private message module, unable to see a deleted user's message, probably some spam account that was removed before the message could be read. Admin may want to see related http://drupal.org/node/178380 and http://drupal.org/node/167485
