In Game chat doesn't work. I have disabled my antivirus and firewall. Any suggestions on how to make this work?

Hi Hexi,

I should have asked last night, but I guess I was fuzzy... How were you able to talk to us if ingame chat didn't work?

Do you mean the use of the group chat?

if so, one has to belong to a group in order to use that feature.

Do you mean the puzzle chat? If so, sometimes people aren't paying attention to that window so may not respond.

If you mean direct messaging (one on one), "/me" type commands or similar...that's only possible using a dedicated IRC client like XChat, the Firefox addon "Chatzilla", foldit's own @ fold.it\i or similar

for irc setup, you'll need to input the host address and a new nickname (screenname). the login addr is 140.142.20.241, and a username other than that used for game play must be chosen due to conflicts. There is also an IRC key located on your personal page that should be used to validate your identity to the server using the NickServer command "\msg NickServ IDENTIFY <your irc Key>.

Join global chat by issuing the command "/join #global"

Finally, can you provide the OS you're using?

regards,

Thanks for the explanation. See also the FAQ entries for IRC. Few people read the FAQ -- the other day Pletsch posted a duplicate of info we had in the FAQ in the forums. Maybe we should make the FAQ link more prominent.
