Band "distance" relation to usage?

1) What does the term "distance" mean when referring to setting attributes of a rubber band and how does it correlate to its actual function?

2) Distance from what?

3) Is there a "zero" point? And if so, where is it located on the slider, and where is the marker designating the zero? That is, why is there no marker?

When thinking about the distance setting of the rubber bands, you might find it more intuitive to think about it in terms of a spring. A spring has a certain length when it is at rest, and this distance term relates to the resting length of the rubber band (that is, the distance between the two segments that the band connects). The rubber band will try to push the two segments outward or pull inward to reach its resting or equilibrium length. There is no zero point, the slider ranges from a short resting length to a large resting length.

if each side of the distance slider had a name for what it does, ie, push or pull. It is not intuitive to apply a slider without reference.

And thanks, I am familiar with spring physics. There is no sensible reason to obfuscate its meaning or purpose in the game. While one can come to understand *your thinking regarding the approach, it is not intuitive in the least, and so is fundamentally contrary to ergonomic use of the program.

Finally, one should not have to intuit every command. It is getting quite tiresome having to "figure out" what your intentions are when you add remove or otherwise alter tools and commands.
