I'm assuming it is some sort of iteration count but I don't know.

I assume you're talking about

I assume you're talking about the dial that pops up with the stop sign X, timer, and number of iterations? If so, that number in the parenthesis is the number of passes of that command's execution, or iterations. If you ever get into recipes/scripting, the number of iterations is a value that can be passed to functions, such as WiggleAll and ShakeSidechainsAll.
