Description: Understanding how and why proteins fold
Mission:

Welcome to the SFSU Cell Biology Foldit Group. Please read the about page (https://fold.it/portal/info/about) to better understand the importance of protein folding in cell biology. Then, download the appropriate version of the app from the home page, log in, and begin the intro puzzles.

The goal of playing these training levels is to get a feel for the intramolecular forces that compel proteins to take on their unique shapes. Everyone should complete at a minimum: Side Chains, Backbone Packing, Hydrogen Bonding, Hydrophobics and Hydrophilics, Tools and Types, and Protein Design.

Most of the puzzles are straightforward, but a few are a little tricky and you can get stuck (I got stuck several times). Don't spend ages in frustration. Use the group forum to ask classmates for help or use the global chat box on the bottom right of each puzzle to ask other current users.

Above all, have fun!

Jonathan
