Can't approve or join my own group

I created a group, which others have requested to join. I have no messages and see no way to approve their entry. I also had to request admission the group (from myself?), but I am not a member of the group I created. There is no "My Group" link.
The problem might be related to the fact that I created the group while a member of an old group, which I since deleted.

I suppose you have to create your group again when outside of any group. I think you'll then be the owner by default.
